WHY FLAX
We made a deliberate decision to use linen jersey for our underwear. Linen is made from flax, the European textile fibre “par excellence”. For thousands of years, linen was the most important textile grown, spun and woven in Europe. At the beginning of the twentieth century, cotton overtook linen as the main textile, and linen became a luxury product. Since demand for linen has never ceased, the cultivation of flax in Europe continues to this day.
The cultivation of flax is based on crop rotation. Flax needs no irrigation, practically no fertilizer and produces zero waste: all its sub-products are usable. This makes it by nature a fibre friendly to the environment.
Our linen comes from Flanders, a fertile region that includes parts of France, Belgium and the Netherlands, famed for its extra-fine flax. Our linen is certified by Masters of Linen, which means that all steps of its production, from field to fabric, is entirely carried out in Europe.
It follows that supply lines are short, adding further to the light carbon footprint of our prime material.
The dyeing processes are organic and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified, guaranteeing that our underwear does not contain any toxic or harmful chemicals for you, your skin or the environment.
The end result is a high quality linen jersey, extremely soft and silky, with extraordinary properties, especially for underwear: breathable, thermo-regulating, non-allergenic, antibacterial and antifungal.
The only concession we make is the use of 5% elastane, to give just the necessary elasticity to our underwear. We are considering ways of eliminating elastane for certain items in the future.
MADE IN EUROPE
In addition to using a linen made in Europe, we work exclusively with European suppliers and manufacturers to ensure favourable working conditions, high environmental standards and as a result a long-lasting quality product.
We believe in establishing strong and trusting relationship with our suppliers and partners. This is why we prefer to work with those who are relatively near to us. They are mainly located in Portugal but also in Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium and France.
TIMELESS DESIGN
TA-CT’s unique strength is that our product development is done entirely in-house. This allows us to achieve excellence in terms of pattern-cutting and fit. When we create a new item, we focus on pattern design while also considering how to make the item as durable and functional as possible. We create a unique and timeless style that can be worn season after season.
We produce in small quantities and consciously select materials to conserve natural resources. Our fabric collection is made in our own studio in Lorca, Spain. This allows us to continuously improve our products, minimising wastage, and so decrease our environmental impact.
EVERY DETAIL COUNTS
We never stop thinking about the details of our products.
For example, our mother-of-pearl buttons come from an old German manufacturing stock, and are of a quality that is hard to find today.
Our packaging can be reused and recycled. The outer container is made of brown cardboard from sustainable forests, while for the internal wrapping we use a cellulose-based paper.
For shipment we use the post office, one of the most sustainable delivery options. Many postmen cover the last mile on foot.
SUSTAINABILITY, A SIMPLE FACT OF LIFE
Having a more sustainable approach goes beyond TA-CT products. We believe in a wider philosophy that encourages us to be more connected to our bodies, wear quality clothes made of natural materials, and consume less but better.
Deep down, each of us knows what it means to respect nature and protect our environment. TA-CT can help you act on your convictions.
